Day 8 - our way back home

Today we had to get up earlier than on other days. Our coach to the airport (London Heathrow) departed at about 08:30, which means we were not allowed to come late. Everyone was on time and so we left Eastbourne! Good bye!

At the airport we first checked in and gave our luggage to the company with which we were flying (Lufthansa). We had enough time and so we could relax after we went through all the security checks. As soon as we knew the Gate we got ready but then we were told that the flight is delayed. They had to fill the airplane with fuel. There were so many planes waiting for departures at the airport. Almost every 30 seconds another plane took off.

At about half past 4 we arrived in Munich and had to go through the passport control of course and grap our suitcases again before we went back to Austria for another three and a half hours. Our parents picked us up at about 10 p.m. in front of school.

Day 7 - Around Eastbourne

Hi, we are Laura and Lina. We are in class 3c.

Today we were hiking to Beachy Head. In the morning we got up at 7 o’clock and we got ready for the day. At 7.50 a.m. we left our host family's house and went to the bus stop. The bus was full of people and we had to stand. After 20 minutes we were at our language school.

In the first lesson we learned how to give presentations about different topics. After this lesson we had a 15 minutes break. We could eat, drink, talk and sing Happy Birthday. It was David' s (3c)birthday, so he got a donut as a present from Mr Althaler. In the second lesson we answered questions about interesting facts e.g. the most common name in the world for example is Mohammed. After that we had break again and we finished our lunch package.

At 12.30 we met our teachers in front of school and started our hike.  Up there we took lots of pictures.

On our way back, next to the sea, Jana, Noémi and me heard a dog barking. The owner and her second dog ran nervously around the holiday huts. We told it to Mr Tilg and Mr Althaler but they didn’t react, but we didn’t want to give up. Lina thought she saw the dog and she was sure the dog is in trouble, so we tried to phone Mr. Thöni but he didn’t pick up. We ran to the group. The teachers were waiting for us. We told them everything we knew.

Mr Thöni ran back and rescued the dog. He climbed over a fence. Mr Thöni told us the baby dog is safe. The last hours of our day we spent in the Beacon - shopping center. Jana Laura and Lina bought a red London sweater. After that we went to McDonald's and ate a Mc Flurry. This was our last day in Eastbourne.

Day 6 - London (for the second time)

Hi
I'm Philip and I want to tell you what we did today.

This morning we went to London by train again. First we wanted to see the Buckingham Palast, we had the perfect timing because we saw a little ceremony (Changing of the Guard). We learnt that the "old" guards become replaced. There were many visitors watching what was going on.

Then we walked through St. James Park. It was funny because I saw a squirrel climbing a woman' s leg.
The next stop was Trafalger Square we weren't waiting there that long and headed further to Covent Garden and there we saw a Street artist who made cool tricks.

The best thing was Madame Tussauds because the people looked so real and the 4D Cinema was crazy.

We also were walking along Oxford Street, I guess one of the world's most famous streets, well known for shopping. Comparable to our Maria-Theresien-Straße in Innsbruck. Straight after it we reached Hyde Park.

Inside the Hyde Park were so many animals (swans, Egyptian geese, ducks) and they weren’t scared, it was a beautiful day. Ah ya, I have almost forgotten that people living in London do sports in Hyde Park, cycling, roller skating and so on. There is even a lake in it where you can rent boats in summer. Maybe you can imagine now how big it really is.

That was our second day in London.

Day 5 - Brighton

Dear Travelblog,

Today we were in Brighton where we saw the Royal Pavilion, an Indian-Saracenic palast of King George IV that was build between 1787 and 1820. The Royals used it as a summer residence.

Then we went through the lanes to the pier, it is very big and cool. There were lots of fun rides. (One special fact about the pier which we have learned today is that there was actually another pier that burned down in 2014. You can see the remains of that pier in the background of our picture.)
After some time spending there (riding the roller coasters and tasting sweets...) we walked to the biggest shopping centre in town and at about 6 p.m. we arrived in Eastbourne.

Leo and me had to wait for one more hour at the bus stop, but luckily the teachers were waiting together with us.

I almost forgot to tell you that Brighton has also got a large LGBT community.

I hope I won't be too tired and write you again after my second day tomorrow in London.

Yours Elia (3a)

Hey,

we are Leonie and Noémi and we want to let you know what we did today. In the morning we got ready, then we had breakfast. We missed the bus and so our host family had to bring us to school. After 3 hours of school we went to the train station and we travelled to Hastings.

After 25 minutes we arrived there and we went to the beach - it was very special. Later we had a little bit of freetime and we used the chance to eat fish and chips, it was very delicious.

Then a seagull (Möwe) pooped on Hannah' s jeans, that was very funny. After 20 minutes we hiked up a hill and there was a ruin of a castle.

Finally we took a train back to Eastbourne, everyone made his way home either by bus or walking.

All in all we have to say that today it was quite windy.

That was our day in Hastings and Hannah' s mishap.

Day 3 - Friday

We met at 9 a.m. at the station in Eastbourne and took the train to London. Straight after the arrival at the huge Victoria train station in London we could see the famous Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower) and we walked up to the London Eye. We had booked tickets in advance which means we didn't have to queue for a long time and enjoyed the ride with the London Eye. We had a perfect view above the city.

Later on we walked along the southbank of river Thames. We passed Tade Modern (art gallery) and the Globe Theater. Then we crossed the river Thames using the Millennium Bridge and arrived at St. Paul's Cathedral. We continued our walk to see the Tower of London and came along the Monument to the Great Fire of London,  a 202 feet column.

After having a short break at the Tower of London we headed to the famous Tower Bridge. There we had to wait under the Bridge because of the rain until we were able to cross it. At about half past eight we went back to Eastbourne by train.

Day 2 (Thursday)

Today was our first day at language school in Eastbourne. Kids had breakfast together with some of their host families and arrived on time at school near seaside.

After that our Austrian teachers picked us up and we headed to the coastline. Arriving there it started to rain and some of us couldn't handle the umbrellas well enough and they got wet. At the pier we had time to stroll around and Sofia experienced what seagulls are waiting for. She lost her sandwich! Five of them shared it then.

Later on we walked up to the Wish Tower, one of many towers along the coast, actually built to protect the UK against an invasion by Napoleon in the 18th century.

Finally students had some time in the centre to buy souvenirs and see what English shops offer.

Day 1 (Wednesday March 22nd)

Some unpredictable things occured during our journey to London. We checked in our luggage at airport Munich. Everything looked fine so far. We were waiting at the gate and we're ready for boarding. All the students sat inside the plane when suddenly a guy stopped Sahar because of her passport. Then everything had to go fast, pilots wanted to close the plane. Mr. Thöni wanted to stay with Sahar who was not allowed to board the plane. Then Mr. Althaler decided to stay in Munich when suddenly Ms. Köhle came back from the plane to see what's going on. All of a sudden decisions had to be made and Ms. Köhle left the gate together with Sahar.

Arriving in London, we declaimed suitcases and Valeria did not get hers. We still wait for it but they told us they will bring it soon to Eastbourne.

Finally we have arrived in Eastbourne. After getting some instructions at school we walked to the seaside and at about 5:30 our host families picked us up.

Goodbye my dears! Suitcase is ready. Have I put everything inside?

06:30 a.m.: Luggage is inside our coach. We are heading to Munich. Our flight will departe at about 12 midday. Lina 3c says excitedly, "I am really looking forward to our trip, this is the first time I am travelling without mum. I am bit nervous."

Before travelling our kids tried to get in touch with their host families.

Here are some answers we have already received from our host families.

Some questions to ask yourself before travelling?

Ready? Have you changed currency at home? British Pounds? Or will you get cash from the ATM? Have you created a travelling packing list?

What about my passport? Still valid?

What else do I need?
